A New Team, A Different Time

Well, I don't have much time to write, but I figured it was time for an update. Everything is going pretty well, not really any new natural disasters to speak of. We received a new team on Monday and it has been an adventure and a obstacle trying to connect with them. It is very difficult at times. One of the groups is full of white, wealthy high school kids from California. It is difficult because some of them have been here for several years in a row and feel that they know this place better than anyone, but they are pretty blind to the Godness of this city. The boys on the other hand are definitely trouble makers. On the first day in Antigua they were buying all their friends knives for souvenirs.

I have four boys and two girls at my site this time. It has been good to have some girls around this time. Wednesday was their first day at site and so far the most exciting for me. We vaccinated a few cows and then we castrated pigs that were about a month old. I was so excited when Mario asked if I wanted to do it. I did 4 or 5 of the pigs and it just confirmed even more that veterinary work is what I want to do with my life. (I guess that's a good thing since I start school in a couple of months). Thursday and today (Friday) we build another chicken coop for a lady in a nearby community. We have to walk about 3 miles to her house, but it's not a bad walk. Because there are so many of us it only took us two days to build the coop. Day one we split into two team and my team build the lower deck while Mario (our leaders)'s team build the top story. Today we put the stories together, added chicken wire, a roof, and the doors and we were finished. The lady prepared us a wonderful meal yesterday and today we had fried chicken and spaghetti. Mario says Ag is the best site because we work hard, have good food, and good fellowship. I definitely agree!

I can feel God moving and breathing life into me through this city. It's a miraculous feeling waking up every morning and eating breakfast with my family. It is such a blessing that my family here is so wonderful! I am really connecting with my two younger sisters. I try to use as much Spanish as possible and just try to imrpov the rest. I am learning a lot from them. Last night we played Jenga and laughed so hard! The candy my grandma sent me is almost gone. She sent 6lbs! The children here love the candy, and so do I!

Tomorrow we are going to the beach. I am kind of dreading it, because I will be playing babysitter, but another girl from Greenville who is here will be meeting us there, so that is exciting. We will also be going to Antigua afterwords to eat Fernando's famous homemade pizza. It's incredible! The world cut (el Mundial) started today and it's crazy here. Everyone watches soccer. My family wants Argentina or Brazil to win. The staff here has a bracket competition going on and I put Spain to win, but I guessed on most of it, because I don't really know much about soccer. I asked some of the local kids here and tried to make it up with their information.

I know this isn't much, but it's all I have time for right now. Please continue praying for me and keeping me in your thoughts. You are all in my thoughts and prayers as well. I miss everyone at home, but this place has definitely found a permanent spot in my heart. It's so beautiful here! I can't wait to come home and show you all the pictures, but I am really not ready to leave!

Dios Le Bendiga!

Love,
Jamie
